For most Denver-area homes:
- 1-inch filters: every 30–60 days
- 4-inch or 5-inch media filters: every 6–12 months
- Pets, allergies, or smokers: every 30 days
- Wildfire season: check monthly
A clogged filter is the #1 cause of preventable HVAC service calls.
Things you can check yourself:
- Thermostat set to "cool" not "heat" or "fan"
- Dirty filter blocking airflow
- Tripped breaker on outdoor unit
- Frozen evaporator coil — turn AC off for a few hours to thaw
- Outdoor unit blocked by leaves or debris
If none of these solve it, you likely have a refrigerant or compressor issue. Call (303) 521-4037.
Xcel Energy offers up to $2,250 per heating ton for cold-climate certified heat pumps. The rebate scales with system size:
- 1.5 ton system: up to $3,375
- 2 ton system: up to $4,500
- 2.5 ton system: up to $5,625
- 3 ton system: up to $6,750
- 3.5 ton system: up to $7,875
- 4 ton system: up to $9,000
Additional state and local rebates may also apply. All amounts are estimates and subject to Xcel approval. We file the paperwork; rebates are paid directly to you.
That chirp means low battery (or end-of-life for the unit itself).
- Try a new battery first. Most use 9V or AA. Replace and chirp should stop within a minute.
- Still chirping? The detector itself may be 8-10+ years old and at end of life. Replace it.
- Hardwired detectors: still have backup battery. Swap that battery first.
Smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years.
Safety first: if a breaker is hot to the touch, smells burnt, or won't reset — stop and call an electrician.
Common safe-to-investigate causes:
- Overloaded circuit — too many things plugged in. Unplug a few items and reset.
- Recent thunderstorm — power surges trip breakers. Reset and monitor.
- Specific appliance issue — if it trips when you turn on one device, that device may be faulty.
If a breaker keeps tripping for no clear reason, that's an electrician's job. We can connect you with a vetted Knock Knock Pros electrician — free to find one.
Yes — running toilets are usually a 5-minute fix.
- Lift the tank lid. Look at the flapper.
- Flapper not sealing: rubber gets brittle. Replace it (~$5).
- Chain too tight: chain holding flapper open. Loosen.
- Float ball too high: water keeps filling. Adjust the screw.
If after these checks it's still running, the fill valve may be the issue — that's plumber work. We can connect you with a Knock Knock Pros plumber.
